 Guidelines to Starting a Character
« Thread Started on Apr 2, 2009, 6:13pm »

In this thread, you will find information on how to create a character profile and begin your Bleached Experience. Different types of profiles have different content, so consult your respective place in the thread if you're looking for the means to express yourself whether you are Shinigami, Arrancar, Quincy, a Mortal, or the elusive Vizard.

First of all, all characters have an appearance, personality, and history - and so all profiles contain this section. Fill it in with as much detail as you can muster. There's no minimum requirements, but we do require articulate paragraphs. No bullets or repetitive, lazy phrases. There is a code for your convenience at the bottom of every section.

NOTE: When making a profile, you will find yourself developing powers and abilities. Make sure you label them all, for ease of reference. No exceptions will be permitted. In addition, abilities and powers must be explained - not just WHAT IT DOES, but HOW IT WORKS. Don't say your power makes you 'twice as strong' explain what it actually does - do spirit particles enter your muscle fibers and make them more functional?

We want abilities to be in theme with a character, so describing how they work will help us understand and give you more to write about in the profile and in the long run. If we see powers simply stating their effects vaguely or without explanation, we WILL demand elaboration.

Keep in mind that when a character is accepted, its thread is locked to prevent tampering for unfair advantages in role play. To change things, you must do so through the staff.

General Information:

Name: (Your character name. Name yourself however you want provided it is a true role play name.)
Apparent Age: (How old you look. This is required. If you don't really have a discernible age, as with a less civilized Hollow, you may leave this section out and change the below section to just 'age.')
Actual Age: (How old your character actually is. Not all characters are as old as they appear. If you want your age unknown, that is allowed.)
Height: (How tall your character is, this is important for people rping with you who need to know in a glance.)
Weight: (Like above, but with weight.)
Belongings: (Things you own that are of interest. Examples would be Captain Hikori's mechanical eyes, a noble's manor, a character's pet, or your bottomless gourd of booze. If you get any new belongings you intend to hold onto long, make sure the staff knows to edit it into your profile.)

Appearance: (How you look. This is generally a longer section. Ideas of what to put include what you wear, your hair and eye color, your skin tone, your body type, and perhaps aspect of your demeanor if it is relevant.)

Personality: (How your character acts. This should be a long section, too. Ideas of what to include could be ways that you react towards friends, a lover, allies, enemies, rivals, etcetra, or how people to tend to view your character based on how they act.)

Fighting Style: (This section may be long but isn't too important. It's mostly to give people an idea of where your aptitudes lie, such as in Kidou or in the usage of Arrancar techniques, as well as posting information about your combat stance or your mindset in combat. Aggressive? Analytical and tactical? Clumsy? Tell us, so we can synergize with you when we role play. If you have any unique techniques, as with an Arrancar, then this is where it goes. Label it for ease of reference.)

History: (Your character's backstory. Long and important section, must include how you became what you are. You may also include info on descendants and people you know, or what you were like when you were alive if you play a spirit and how you died. The sky is the limit, but make sure not to step too far out of bounds when developing the history, as with anything. We encourage creativity, but nonsense is another story.)

Interested in playing a Shinigami? This is the template for one. You may be interested in playing a Captain or a Lieutenant in the future - to earn such a rank requires activity and proving your ability to fill the role effectively. There are npc's holding all of these slots, but they will be plotted out of the way so you may take up their spot if you manage to earn the rank. Again - ranks with npc's in them are NOT unavailable, they are just occupied by placeholders.

Division and Seat: (This is not what you fill in. You can decide on your division, but you start unseated in most cases. We'll keep it up to date for you as you climb the ranks.)
alternatively,
Ambitions: (If you're a Rogue Shinigami or just not loyal to the Seireitei, explain your plans and your allies here. You need some kind of ally which can be explained at length in your history for this to work out, as it is rare that a Shinigami who forsakes his/her duties lives long.)

Sealed Zanpakuto: (Describe the appearance of your zanpakuto, if you have one yet. All zanpakuto are some variant of a katana, so there's not much to say here, but you may describe your scabbard for it if you wish. Also, you MAY describe your zanpakuto spirit and spirit world here, but it is not required as Shinigami tend to view their spirit worlds very personally.)

Release Phrase: (What you say to release your zanpakuto. Generally it is a command followed by the spirit's name.)

Shikai: (Your released weapons new form if any is described here, as well as the visual and physical process of the release occurring. All powers must be labeled and separated for ease of comprehension and reference. Don't forget!)

The Arrancar are powerful Hollow that retain their mental capacity and most of their consciousness. They are slightly more powerful than a Shinigami at their level. Aizen is said to have created them by ripping their masks partly off their Hollow faces.

The ten Espada are the strongest Arrancar in Hueco Mundo by reputation and are the personal warriors of Aizen, their King. They reside in Las Noches, a gigantic white castle in the middle of the Hueco Mundo, which also serves as Aizen's fortress. To become an Espada is a dangerous path that can often involve defeating the current Espada in order to steal their rank. Espada feature their rank via a number tattooed on their body.

Since Espada are typically superior in strength to the other Arrancar, they get something other applications don't usually get - a special abilities. This can be an alteration to an existing ability to emphasize their mastery of it, or an altogether unique ability.

Fraccion are personal servants and/or entourage to the Espada, and you may play as one if it is your flavor. Fraccion can range from weak rabble to being as deadly as the Privaron Espada - however, if your loyalties are once questioned beware, for your Espada may freely destroy you.

Rank: (Most Arrancar are organized into rank, with the exception of renegades, lost eggs, and Exequias. This is where it'll be put - you may pick a number if you want to play a Numeros, otherwise this is edited by the staff.)

Mask Remnants: (All Arrancar have some remaining parts of their mask on their face. Describe yours.)

Hollow Hole: (All Hollow, including Arrancar, have a hole somewhere on their body that their soul chain was wrenched out of when they became such a vile creature. Typically it's on the chest or abdomen, but exceptions have occurred, such as Nnoitra's left eye. Describe yours.)

Special Abilities: (Generally this section is reserved for Espada or exceedingly strong Arrancar. Describe a unique ability or an advanced spin of an existing Arrancar ability here. If you're not an Espada adding this to your profile, then don't fill it out unless you have a very, very good profile that can convince the staff you're worthy of it.)

Sealed Soul Cutter: (Arrancar keep their true form and powers contained in their Soul Cutter. Unlike a Shinigami's zanpakuto, the Arrancar's Soul Cutter can manifest in a variety of ways, not limited to a simple long sword. Describe what yours is like.)

Release Phrase: (To release their true powers, your Arrancar must speak this phrase. What is it? Note that most Arrancar follow the same trend as Shinigami release phrases, except that their Soul Cutters typically have Spanish names.)

Resurrección: (When an Arrancar releases, they undergo a transformation into their true, Hollow form. This is much different from a Shinigami - while Shinigami change the form of their zanpakuto and imbue it with new powers, Arrancar change their own selves and gain new powers within themselves. It is required that you follow this criteria, Arrancar with releases that seem more like Shinigami Bankai will be rejected in order to preserve the spirit of the Arrancar.

In this section, describe what happens when you speak your release phrase. What visual phenomena occur? What do you turn into and how? What changes do your powers undergo? And if you gain any new powers as most Arrancar do, label them all separately for ease of reference.)

Vizards are powerful, but what makes them special is not that - it is that they are unique and strange. They are a different play-style in this role play from Shinigami and Arrancar, it is more free-spirited. One cannot begin play as a Vizard - the staff will judge you over time on your potential, and if they deem you are trustworthy and loyal enough to the site to play a Vizard, they will notify you that you may design a single Vizard character. It takes a lot to earn more than one.

Vizards were once Shinigami, but in one instance in time, they were "Hollowfied" by Aizen, causing their zanpakuto spirit to be possessed by a Hollow. In time, they learned to suppress their Hollowside and use its powers, by putting on a mask, hence the name Vizard (Visored.)

Note that if your Vizard hasn't mastered suppressing his or her Hollow, then the profile may be reasonably different. This is a rare case, however, as the Vizards have existed for so long that by now any that haven't suppressed their Hollow would had turned into it.

Mask: Describe the appearance of the mask that your Vizard possesses and how capable they are of wearing it for long periods of time. A visual aid is definitely recommended.

Hollow Power: What power do you get from wearing your mask? Powers vary greatly, such as passive abilities or activated abilities, or even alterations to your Shinigami abilities. All Vizard, regardless of their Hollow power, get huge boosts of strength and speed from putting on their mask.

Shikai: (Your released weapons new form if any is described here, as well as the visual and physical process of the release occurring. All powers must be labeled and separated for ease of comprehension and reference. Don't forget!)

Bankai: (If your Vizard possesses the power of Bankai, describe it! Its name, what it does, the visual effects. We encourage very 'large' Bankai, highly cinematic and having epic, wide-scale effects rather than simple passive boosts like Ichigo. Make sure to label your powers as always.)

[b]Hollow Power:[/b]

[b]Sealed Zanpakuto:[/b]

The Human race is fragile thing, really more a source of souls and Hollow sustenance than anything productive to the constantly waged war of the spirits. There are exceptions, however.

In some cases, prolonged exposure to an immense source of reiatsu or other more mysterious causes (including just awakened genetics) can give a human so much spiritual sensory acuity that not only can they see the images of the dead, but they can interact with them. Not only can they see and feel spiritual power - they can wield it.

Inaccurately called by the Shinigami, "konpaku," such humans are extremely rare and have the burden of hiding their powers in order to blend with society - and to avoid unwanted attention from a hungry Hollow.

Source of Spiritual Sensitivity: (This should be in your history in most cases, but we want you to reiterate more clearly here: Why can you sense, see, hear, and influence spirits? Did you have some kind of interaction with a Shinigami that caused its powers to seep into your soul? Are you the offspring of a "konpaku" or perhaps an actual spirit? Was the power given to you? Your character may not know, but we must.

Spiritual Powers: (How do your powers manifest? Are they ever-present, or concealed until you need them? Is it some kind of weapon or bodily alteration, perhaps an inverted spiritual projection of yourself that serves as a guardian? Or can you simply influence and alter spirit particles to manifest supernatural abilities?)

Artifacts: (Some items are infused with reiatsu to have special properties when interacting with the dead, such as a blessed mirror or a Syrian medallion. These were likely mentioned in belongings, but here you can explain what they do at length.)

The Shinigami believe that corrupt souls must be purified - the Quincy believe they must be destroyed. This is what sets the two apart and causes them to quarrel and bicker to the degree of becoming actual enemies. Indeed, a Shinigami and a Quincy in the same room is scarcely a pretty sight, but that doesn't make the Quincy the antagonist.

On the contrary, they are closer to humans than any spirit can be - they're basically mortals genetically imbued with the powers of a Holy Knight. Relying on their intense training and special artifacts and devices to supplement their powers, Quincy are definitely capable of natural power that rivals or even succeeds to the Shinigami - the drawback being that they're still essentially human, and therefore are not only more fragile but have a comparatively small lifespan. Quincy are trained from their youngest available age to make the best of this.

Quincy don't rely on kidou, zanpakuto, releases, and other such nonsense to defeat their enemies - they focus on a Quincy Cross to manifest a bow that fires spiritual arrows. Older Quincy rely more heavily on spiritual prowess than their equipment and physique, having conditioned themselves to move their weary bodies with a sort of reiatsu puppetry called Ransô Tengai. This ability is rare, nobody may apply for it - it may be given to an exceptional profile, however.

Keep in mind all new Silver Tubes and Artifacts you develop may be added to the Quincy information section to be used openly by other Quincy who apply for possessing them unless you have some reasonable explanation as to why you would be the only one to possess it. Not very many Quincy know how to make Artifacts, and so if you got your hands on an Artifact, there are sure to be more that were manufactured for use by other Quincy long before you. You may also apply in the Quincy thread for Artifacts and Silver Tubes after your character is made if you want new things.

Quincy Cross: (To conjure your Quincy bow, you need a focus. Describe yours and keep in mind that it isn't always a 'cross' in all cases.)

Quincy Bow: (Describe your Quincy bow. Some Quincy manifest different weapons, such as crossbows and guns, so also describe how it works in fights but balance it so it isn't overall stronger than a bow simply by being a different form of projectile technology.)

Unique Powers: (Quincy generally find a way to mold their own reiatsu into an ability unique to them. Has yours? How many? What do they do? Label them all, but keep in mind that if you apply for too many, we may ask you to remove some.)

Artifacts: (While they lack the advantage of Kidou or Release forms, Quincy make up for it by using their ingenuity to infuse objects in the real world with spiritual particles to give them supernatural properties. Label them, describe what they look like, what they do, and where they came from.)

Silver Tubes: (Quincy 'bottle' their powers for future use. Similar to kidou, they must use incantations and placements of these tubes to activate the powers. What Silver Tubes and abilities tied to them do you possess?)

Quincy Powers: (Describe which Quincy powers you possess.)

Code:
[b]Quincy Cross:[/b]

[b]Quincy Bow:[/b]

[b]Unique Powers:[/b]
